How the Intensive English Program Functions

The IEP offers nine (9) levels of Academic English language for Beginning to Advanced level students. Students may enter the IEP at any English language level.

When learning in the IEP, skills are developed in each of the four language skill areas.

  • Conversation Skills

    Begins with basic conversation skills and progresses toward public speaking and presentation skills

  • Listening Skills

    Enhances ability to understand English and to develop note taking skills necessary for the lecture style of the American classroom

  • Reading Skills

    Increases student’s ability to comprehend basic reading materials and progresses toward academic writings encountered in the American university classroom

  • Writing and Grammar Skills

    Develops basic writing skills and progresses toward academic and research writing done in the American university classroom

Language Requirements for OBU Undergraduate and Graduate Studies

Students desiring to enter an OBU Undergraduate or Graduate degree program must complete the IEP at the following levels to meet language requirements for Admission:

  • Undergraduate Students - Level 8
  • Graduate Students - Level 9

To enter OBU as an undergraduate or graduate student, an Application for Admission to the program of interest will need to be made.
