The business world has firm expectations of Oklahoma Baptist University (OBU) business management and marketing graduates. They know they are success-driven and career-ready. The Dickinson Business School has mastered this standard with an innovative teaching pilot in conjunction with the OBU Career Development Center.
What are micro internships?
Micro internships are programs that allow students complete short-term professional assignments similar to those given to new hires or interns. Like a traditional internship, these projects give students valuable work experience, the chance to explore possible career paths, and opportunities to network and stand out in a competitive job market. However, these micro internships are conducted within a marketing course, so they fit more easily into students' busy schedules. OBU students (graduate, undergraduate) have worked with other 100 organizations across the globe including Albania, Mexico, and South Africa.
This guide provides a conceptual model to demonstrate how micro internships can be practically applied within OBU business school classroom settings. Other universities and colleges can utilize this document to benchmark their own micro internship programs. This teaching pilot is vital to today’s higher education environment because this micro internship program better prepares students for a more seamless transition into today’s business environment by the infusion of various career readiness approaches.
This program generates within its participants not only highly-desired skills, but also a confidence that they are career-ready.
