Dr. Elbert Smith returned to Oklahoma Baptist University in 2022, moving from London where he and his wife, Kay, had completed thirty years with the International Mission Board. The Smiths began as a church planters in Mexico and served in Latin America, South Asia and England. As Director of Field Personnel Orientation with the IMB, he oversaw the orientation of IMB workers for fifteen years.
Dr. Smith earned a Bachelor of Arts in religion from OBU, a Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Ph.D. from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Now director of the Tom Elliff Center for Missions, Dr. Smith serves as associate professor of Missions at OBU, where he and Kay met their freshman year. They enjoy being back on campus equipping the next generation of workers to go to the nations.
