Recording artist and Oklahoma Baptist University alumna Missy Mitchell ministered to students through story and song during the Sept. 19 chapel service.
Declared legally blind at the age of five, Mitchell has limited distance vision and depth perception. She uses stories of struggle and triumph to minister to others about God's faithfulness and love.
To introduce her songs, Mitchell tells stories which relate to the texts of the songs. She told students about her tough teenage years and the anger she felt toward God. She blamed him for her inability to drive a car and blamed her parents for her sense of dependence. She described how she came running back to God, knowing that his love would ultimately sustain her.
She concluded with a rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner. Quoting Romans 8:28, she said America must know that God is faithful and will use His glory to show us how to heal for the good His kingdom.
Mitchell has opened for Margaret Becker, Wayne Watson, Larnelle Harris and Babbie Mason and sang with Larry Dalton and the Tulsa Symphony in 1996.
