Bison Bow Out in Semifinals; Await Region Seeding
November 1, 2004
Oklahoma Baptist University's Bison soccer squad lost its Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament semifinal match with 14th-ranked Southern Nazarene Tuesday, 3-1, and now awaits word on a possible Region VI Tournament berth.
The Bison came up short in the physical match.
Amaury Nunes scored the lone Bison goal in the first half and the teams went to the intermission knotted at 1-1.
Southern Nazarene scored on a Thomas Siranga penalty kick in the 54th minutes for a 2-1 Crimson Storm advantage.
Fabio Pires shot on goal about a minute later was saved by Crimson Storm keeper David Eguren.
SNU added an insurance goal when Robert Oguda rocketed a shot past Zach Eckert in the 58th minute, getting an assist from Domnique Nayaga.
OBU may know as early as Tuesday evening if they will be included in the four-team Region VI Tournament, the field of which is determined by LONGO ratings. That system takes into account quality wins and losses on a weighted scale.
OBU is 14-6 on the season with two victories and two losses against teams that finished in the final NAIA Top 25.
