February 19, 2005

The Lady Bison broke a scoreless tie in the third inning of the opener when Ashley Howard tripled and scored on an infield single by Allison Ramzy.

The Bison scored twice in the fifth when Howard walked ahead of a two-run home run by Sandralina Rones. Rones drove in another run in the seventh after Brooke Stevens doubled and was lifted for pinch runner Catherine Eimen.

Zahara went the distance for the shutout, improving to 1-1 on the season. She allowed five singles and struck out seven.

Rones and Ramzy had two hits each.

Rones led off the second game with a home run to center to trigger a three-run inning. Katy Thurber reached on a fielders choice in front of a home run by Cathy Nitz.

Brett Swofford doubled home Nitz and Melissa Martinez, who had reached on singles, in the fourth inning for a 5-0 lead.

The lead swelled to 6-0 when Michelle Asmundson singled and scored on a double by Swofford.

East Central scored three times in the bottom of the sixth on three hits.

Zahara relieved Howard (1-0) in the seventh with two on and one out and got the save without allowing an inherited runner to cross the plate.

Rones, Nitz and Swofford had two hits each in the Lady Bison's 10-hit attack.

OBU opens the home portion of the season Thursday against ECU.
