OBU Drops Two at Eighth-Ranked USAO

A seventh-inning error undid an upset bid for Oklahoma Baptist University in their twinbill loss at Science & Arts of Oklahoma in Chickasha.

USAO won the opener 1-0 and then run-ruled OBU 12-4 in six innings.

The eighth-ranked Drovers and the Lady Bison were scoreless through six and a half innings. With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Stephanie Hey walked and move to second on a single by Jesssica Darling. Crystal Judkins grounded to second and Hey scored when OBU threw the ball away trying to get the second out of what might have been an inning-ending double play.

OBU's Melissa Martinez had two hits in the game as Dana Askins handcuffed OBU on four singles.

The Lady Bison threatened in the third and the sixth. In the third, Martinez led off with a single and move to second on a one-out single by Catherine Eimen. But Askins retired Allison Ramzy and Ashley Howard on consecutive pop ups to third base.

Amanda Zahara (13-8) took the hard-luck unearned loss, allowing seven hits.

In the sixth, OBU had runners at the corners with one out, but Askins induced a hard-hit double play ball by Brooke Stevens.

In the second game, OBU took a 1-0 lead in the second on a home run by Stevens. It was Stevens' fourth home run of the season.

The lead didn't last long as the Lady Bison allowed three runs in the second inning, two coming on a triple by Tanna Truelove.

OBU took a 4-3 lead in the fourth on a three-run home run by Cathy Nitz, her fifth of the season.

The Lady Bison handed the lead right back with two of their nine second-game errors leading to five runs.

USAO tacked on three more in the fifth and ended the game on an unearned run with two outs in the sixth, providing the run-rule ending.

OBU, now 21-12 overall and 6-8 in the SAC, will play in William Jewell's tournament Friday and Saturday. On Friday, they will play Baker University at 1 p.m. and No. 23 Evangel at 3 p.m. OBU plays Graceland at 11 a.m. Saturday and finishes the pool at 1 p.m. with No. 12 Columbia College.
