Peguero Ties School HR Record

Article Date

Felix Peguero clouted his 15th and 16th home runs of the season to tie the Oklahoma Baptist University single season record as the Bison swept Northwood, 10-3 and 11-7.

Peguero equaled the single season home run marks of Terry Rutledge in 1971 and Ygenio Booker in 1992. Both of Peguero's home runs Tuesday came in the first game.

Chad Rhoades made his first start of the season for the Bison, allowing two earned and one unearned run in a complete game outing. His 12-strikeout, four hit performance improved Rhoades' record to 3-1 in the season.

Danny Guidry put the Bison ahead with a two-run double in the first before Peguero homered to make it 4-0. Aaron Dickson singled home two more runs for a 6-0 first-inning lead.

OBU added a run in the third on an Isaac Romero RBI single. Peguero launched another two-run home run for a 9-0 lead in the fourth.

The Knights scored an unearned run in the sixth, but OBU bounced back with an unearned run in the sixth. Northwood's Jason Ford doubled home two runs in the seventh.

OBU got 12 hits with Dickson and Adam Dalby leading with three hits each.

J (1-0) Vinson picked up the win in relief in the second game.

Northwood picked up their first lead of the day in the top of the first, 2-0, before Danny Guidry homered home Frankie Ibarra to tie the game in the bottom of the first.

Northwood added three more runs in the second for a 5-2 lead.

OBU closed to 5-4 in the bottom of the second with an RBI double by Dickson and an RBI triple by Kip Keith.

The Bison took the lead and put the game away with a seven-run third inning. Nick Bakich and Guidry both had RBI triples, Eric Curry and Peguero doubled home a run and Ibarra plated one on a fielders choice.

Northwood closed to within 11-7 and had bases loaded with two outs when Tabor Woolard entered and induced an infield pop up to get OBU out of the fourth inning. Woolard finished the game for his first save of the season.

OBU had nine hits, led by Guidry with two.

OBU, now 35-17, returns to Sooner Athletic Conference action Friday and Saturday with Wayland Baptist visiting for four games.
