OBU Cruises Past Cavaliers

Article Date

Scheduled to go nine innings, Oklahoma Baptist needed only seven to pin a 15-1 loss on Shawnee and Sooner Athletic Conference rival St. Gregory's Tuesday at SGU.

OBU (39-18) opened with an eight-run top of the first and cruised to the run-rule win to move within a game and a half of Lubbock Christian University in the SAC standings at 15-10.

The Bison got RBI singles by Danny Guidry, Felix Peguero, Adam Dalby and Aaron Dickson, an RBI double by Frankie Ibarra and an RBI fielders choice by Rett Terrell on the way to an 8-0 lead.

The Cavaliers scored their only run in the first inning when Kip Keith lost Chase Langley's double in the sun before a sacrifice fly by John Fryar.

Ibarra's third-inning sacrifice fly plated Brad Miller for a 9-1 lead in the third. OBU added two more in the fifth when Miller and Dickson had back-to-back doubles. Dickson would score on a fielders choice by Guidry.

The Bison piled on four more runs in the top of the seventh on two-run home runs by Guidry and Dalby.

Dalby finished with three hits and three RBI, while Guidry had two hits and four runs batted in. Peguero, Miller and Dickson all also had two hits.

Chris Ryan (6-4) went the distance, scattering four hits in his fourth complete game of the season.

OBU and SGU (19-30, 5-20) will play at OBU Thursday.
