OBU Sweeps Southern Nazarene

Article Date

Oklahoma Baptist took two much-needed wins from visiting Southern Nazarene Thursday, 4-2 and 6-3.

The wins keep OBU in the hunt for a Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament berth. The Lady Bison have four games with Northwestern Oklahoma State Friday (in Alva) and Saturday (at home) to determine which of those two teams will reach the Tournament.

OBU will need to win at least two of those games and possibly more depending on how the Rangers fared against USAO in a doubleheader Thursday.

The Lady Bison broke a scoreless tie in the opener with a four-run fourth, using an RBI double by Amanda Zahara, an RBI single by Melissa Martinez and a two-run double by Andi Little.

Southern Nazarene reached Zahara (14-13) for unearned runs in the fifth and seventh to close the gap but Zahara fanned Terra Wiles with the tying run at first base to end the game.

The Lady Bison got two hits each from Zahara and Little.

The second game saw OBU take a 1-0 lead in the first on back-to-back doubles by Allison Ramzy and Ashley Howard to start the inning.

SNU scored two unearned runs in the second for a 2-1 lead, by OBU freshman Brooke Stevens launched her fifth home run of the season with a runner aboard for a 3-2 Lady Bison lead in the third.

The Crimson Storm scored a third unearned run in the fourth to tie the game at 3-3.

Zahara drove home Howard with a pinch hit RBI double in the fifth for a 4-3 lead and OBU used RBI singles by Ramzy and Katy Thurber in the sixth for the final 6-3 margin.

Howard picked up the win to improve to 9-2 with Zahara getting her third save.

Ramzy led OBU's 10-hit attack with three hits, while Howard had two doubles and Thurber had two singles.
