Oklahoma Baptist University's seventh-ranked women's golf team is in third place at the Region VI Tournament at San Antonio's Golf Club of Texas.
The Lady Bison shot an opening round 323 and trail top-ranked Oklahoma City and No. 2 Southern Nazarene by 16 and five strokes, respectively. They lead No. 15 Northwood University and unranked Lubbock Christian by 12 and 23 strokes.
Maggie Cole fired a 76 for a share of third place in the medal standings, while Jennifer Mann and Michelle Hunter shot matching 82s for a 12th-place tie. Ellen Zaske shot an 83.
The tournament continues Saturday.
OBU will most likely advance to its first-ever NAIA Women's Golf National Tournament May 17-20 in South Bend, Ind., regardless of the outcome of the regional tournament.
