With a strong history of missions involvement, Oklahoma Baptist University will welcome one of its distinguished missions leaders to campus Wednesday, during the university's Global Outreach Week. Don Kammerdiener, retired executive vice president of Southern Baptists' International Mission Board, will speak during Wednesday's chapel service in Raley Chapel at 10 a.m.
The service will highlight the opening of the Don R. Kammerdiener Center for Missiological Reserch, a service of OBU's Avery T. Willis Center for Global Outreach.
Kammerdiener and his wife, Meredith, graduated from OBU in 1958. They were appointed Southern Baptist missionaries in 1962 and served in Costa Rica, Columbia and Argentina. For two decades, he was part of the leadership team of the International Mission Board, serving as executive vice president from 1990 until his retirement in 2001.
The Don R. Kammerdiener Center for Missiological Research is an online data base connecting students, faculty, staff and constituents with a wealth of information about countries, people groups, religions, languages, bibliographies and practical knowledge related to missions. The goal of the Center is to provide academic and practical support for students, missions volunteers, church leaders and missionaries as they prepare to go into all the world with the message of Christ.
Global Outreach Week began with a special chapel service on Monday, Sept. 12. There will be a student-led chapel service this Friday.
This week's activities also include the Global Outreach Missions Fair on Sept 14-15, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. in Geiger Center 218-220.
