Bison Second, Ladies Seventh at Jamboree

Oklahoma Baptist University's Bison cross country team finished second and the Lady Bison seventh in the Cowboy Jamboree Saturday.

Competing in the College/Junior College Division, the Bison finished five points behind Angelo State with 114 points. OBU held off third-place Wayland Baptist by three points, despite the Pioneers' having the top two finishers in the race.

Daniel Ellis paced the Bison in fourth place in 26:32, followed by Landon Willets in 15th at 27:30, Theron Stoltzfus in 18th at 27:36, Lance Goodwin in 27th at 28:02 and Michael Elizondo in 50th at 28:47. Also for the Bison, Jacob Wright was 52nd in 28:47 and Drew Van Zandt was 71st at 29:14. Other OBU men in the race were Richard Diaz (122nd), Josh Kinman (141st), Nathan Battershell (148th), Will Korver (153rd), Brock Stoltzfus (161st) and Trace Heavener (178th).

The Lady Bison were the second-best NAIA team in the junior college/college division, trailing third-place Oklahoma Christian. Angelo State won the women's event.

Kyta Willets led OBU with a 20:22 for 13th place. Bekah Brock was 33rd at 21:07, followed by Chandra Huckabay in 21:19 at 43rd, Katy Rader in 51st at 21:34 and Johna Moore in 75th at 22:40. Sarah Hale was the only other Lady Bison in the race, finishing 98th at 22:40.

OBU returns to action Oct. 15 at Southwestern College's NAIA Mid-States Classic in Winfield, Kan.
