Article Date

Dr. Carol Humphrey, professor of history at Oklahoma Baptist University, recently received the President's Award from the American Journalism Historians Association "for her years of invaluable service." The award was presented at the AJHA annual meeting in San Antonio, Texas, earlier this month.

Founded in 1981, the AJHA exists to foster research and teaching of journalism history, to provide a forum and to be a resource. According to the AJHA website, the association defines journalism in its broadest sense to encompass a wide range of mass communication studies.

Humphrey, who has been a member of the OBU faculty since 1985, has received many AJHA accolades for her papers, specifically on the press' role during war time. She has written numerous published articles, as well as five books, on topics such as the Revolutionary War, The War of 1812, and the role of New England newspapers during the American Revolution.

She also has served as a manuscript reviewer for various journals and the University of Delaware Press.
