Former Oklahoma Baptist University basketball standout Leonard Mosley will be one of 80 players selected in the 2005 NBA Developmental League draft on Thursday, Nov. 3.
Mosley has signed a D-League contract and will be drafted by one of the eight teams in the 10-round draft.
Mosley, a two-time All-Sooner Athletic Conference selection from Houston, Texas, was the Most Valuable Player of the 2005 SAC Tournament. He averaged 15.4 points in 2005 and 17 points in 2004.
Headquarters for the 2005 D-League Draft will be at the league office in Greenville, S.C. NBA director of scouting Marty Blake, along with assistant director of scouting Ryan Blake, will team up with D-League director of basketball operations Chris Alpert to offer commentary to NBA Development League draft parties and in-market media via the conference call. The Florida Flame will have the first selection in the draft, followed by the Fayetteville Patriots, Fort Worth Flyers, Arkansas RimRockers, Roanoke Dazzle, Albuquerque Thunderbirds, Tulsa 66ers and the Austin Toros.
The selection process will operate with each team having one pick in each of the 10 rounds. Teams will have up to three minutes to make a selection in each round. No trades will be permitted during the draft and only players signed to an NBA Development League Standard Player Contract are eligible to be selected.
Nine players earned Gatorade Call-ups to the NBA on 11 occasions last season, boosting the four-year total to 50 Gatorade Call-ups spread over 34 players. Forty-six former D-League players were in NBA vet camps this year.
The NBA Development League tips off its fifth season on November 18. The league includes the Albuquerque Thunderbirds (N.M.), Arkansas RimRockers (Little Rock), Austin Toros (Texas), Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), Florida Flame (Ft. Myers), Fort Worth Flyers (Texas), Roanoke Dazzle (Va.) and Tulsa 66ers (Okla.).
The D-League offers players the opportunity to develop their talent in a highly competitive atmosphere under the NBA's umbrella. In addition to thirty-four (34) players, eleven (11) former D-League coaches, six athletic trainers, 14 referees and 30 front office executives have also earned call-ups since the start of the league's inaugural season in November 2001.
