Article Date

Oklahoma Baptist took a breather in the second half but still cruised to an 89-71 win over Mid-America Christian University Monday.

The Bison were outscored 40-24 in the second half after jumping all over the Evangels to the tune of 65-31 in the first half.

Frank Benson led the OBU effort with 27 points and eight rebounds while four other Bison reached double figures in the scoring column. Trey Griffin had 19 points, Julius Hurd had 14, Jason Bray added a dozen and Matt Canady scored 11.

The Bison thundered out of the gate, shooting 66 percent from the field in the first half, including five of 10 from three-point range. OBU missed several lay-ups and went 0-for-8 from beyond the arch in the second half while also missing four of six at the free throw line.

"We went beyond cruise control," said OBU coach Doug Tolin. "We'll have to put two solid halves together this weekend."

OBU returns to action this weekend in Oklahoma Christian University's Sleep Inn Classic. The Bison play at 6 p.m. Friday against the University of Central Oklahoma and at 6 p.m. Saturday opposite Arkansas Baptist College.

MACU's Willie Johnson led all scorers and rebounders with 33 points and 11 caroms.
