Seventy-five students will be recognized as graduates during Oklahoma Baptist University's 2005 Winter Commencement on Friday, Dec. 16, at 2 p.m., in the university's Raley Chapel.
Dr. Shawna York, assistant professor of chemistry and recipient of OBU's 2005 Most Promising Teacher award, will deliver the commencement address. The program also will include greetings by officials from the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma and the OBU Alumni Association.
Two students will graduate with the scholastic predicate Summa Cum Laude for maintaining at least a 3.95 grade point average on all work offered for their degrees. They are Sara Jane Gottschalk, a health, physical education and recreation major from St. Louis, Mo.; and Megan Leann MacNair, a communication studies major from Jetmore, Kan.
In addition to the summa cum laude designation, several students will graduate with scholastic predicates. Eight maintained at least a 3.70 GPA on work toward their degrees and will be designated Magna Cum Laude.
These students are Lori Katherine Aebischer, an elementary education major from Chiclayo, Peru; Jenna Lynn Blanscet, an English major from Carrollton, Texas; Timothy Charles Cook, a Bible major from Shawnee, Okla.; Kristine Nichole Jones, an art education major from Springdale, Ark.; Meredith Whitney Livingston, an English, secondary education major from Edmond, Okla.; Joy G. Rooker-Raley, an anthropology and museum management major from Shawnee, Okla.; Andrea Marie Shank, a social work/family relations major from Pampa, Texas; and Brian Andrew Warfield, a Bible major from Oklahoma City, Okla.
Fifteen students are designated Cum Laude, maintaining at least a 3.40 GPA on work toward their degrees.
They are Allison Corin Badgett, a journalism major from Celina, Texas; Katie Jeanette Black, an elementary education major from Sand Springs, Okla.; Johnathan Gardner Bonner, an English, secondary education major from Rio Rancho, N.M.; Ryan Bouchard, a Christian studies major from Billings, Mont.; Jennifer Elaine Brandt, a family psychology major from Shawnee, Okla.; Sean Patrick Dryden, a mathematics major from Shawnee, Okla.; Karla Amerlia Gerhardt, a finance major from Maple Valley, Wash.; Christy Annette Graham, a psychology major from Bethany, Okla.; Christopher Michael Hayes, a Bible major from Collierville, Tenn.; Adrian Noel Kester, an applied ministry, education major; Jonathan Wen-Sum Mui, a psychology major from Singapore; Carolyn Elizabeh Spinelli, an art major from Plano, Texas; Brianna Lynny Thacker, an elementary education major from Eustace, Texas; Deborah Leigh Welch, a public relations major from Fritch, Texas; and Christy Lynn Williams, a public relations major from Lavaca, Ark.
Six students also received recognition as Who's Who Among Students In American Universities and Colleges. They are Aebischer, Black, Bonner, Gottschalk, MacNair and Williams.
From the College of Arts and Sciences, candidates for bachelor's degrees include: Shannon Lea Armstrong, a family relations major from Shawnee, Okla.; Zachariah M. Bearden, secondary science education major from Sheridan, Wyo.; Amanda Brooke Brandt, a psychology major from Shawnee, Okla.; Kimberly Gayle Cook, a family relations major from Sachse, Texas; Jennifer Jean Crosthwait, a special education major from McLoud, Okla.; J.
