Bison Rally Past IWC, 8-6

March 14, 2008

Both teams had 10 hits and the Bison rallied from a run down with a three-run eighth inning to move to 20-6 on the season.

IWC went up 3-0 in the first inning on a triple by Candy Maldonado Jr., and RBI singles by Jorge Diaz and Brandon Bernard.

Hector Acevedo blanked the Bison until the fourth inning when Cody Lambeth and Keith Johnson walked before a three-run home run by nine-hole hitter Billy Thomas - his first of the season.

The Tigers added a run in the fifth to take a 4-3 lead, but OBU scored twice in the sixth on an RBI single by Thomas and a sacrifice fly by Kyle Cooper.

IWC tied the score with a run in the seventh and took the lead on reliever Jordan McCavitt in the eighth.

Thomas led off the Bison eighth with a single to right. Christian Ruiz then grounded to first base and IWC's Jorge Quintero attempted to start a 3-6-3 double play, but threw the ball low, skipping it into right field, allowing the Bison to put runners at second and third.

Cooper walked to load the bases and Mason Reilly singled to right to tie the game at 6-6. Chris Chambers drew a one-out walk to force home the go-ahead run and Frank Avilla delivered some insurance with a sacrifice fly.

Adam Garner started and lasted seven innings for the Bison and struck out nine. McCavitt (1-0) picked up his first win.

Thomas had three hits to lead OBU, while Ruiz and Josh Collazo had two each.

The Bison entertain Hastings College Saturday in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
