Oklahoma Baptist begins Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament action Tuesday, taking on Rogers State University in a 4 p.m. contest at Wilder Field in Plainview, Texas.
OBU is the fifth seed, while Rogers State is the fourth seed in the eight-team, double-elimination tournament. The teams tied in the regular season conference standings with matching 19-11 conference records. The Hillcats got the higher seed based on taking two of three games from the Bison.
OBU (40-12) lost at Rogers State March 27, 8-7, then won the first game of a home double header 10-8 before losing the series finale 6-4. For the series, RSU outscored the Bison 22-21, making Tuesday's game, on paper, the best game on the schedule.
The Bison allowed six unearned runs in the series.
Cody Lambeth, Chris Chambers and Whitt Barkley all hit .400 or better in the series with Chambers and Josh Collazo each driving in a team-best five RBI in the three games. Collazo hit two home runs, but was 2-for-10 for the series.
The Hillcats, who started 14 different non-pitchers in the series, had seven batters hit over .400 for the series with Travis Harold going 4-for-6. Ryan Littlejohn batted .462 (6-13) and had a team-best four RBI in the game.
The winner of Tuesday's game will play at 4 p.m. against the Lubbock Christian-St. Gregory's winner. The loser will play the LCU-SGU loser at 10 a.m.
