Driven by Design' Senior Art Show Opens at OBU
November 30, 2012
Derek Green, an OBU senior graphic design major from Midwest City, Okla., is showcasing his artwork in a senior art show Nov. 30 to Dec. 8 in OBU's Art Building gallery. The public is invited to view the artwork.
The theme of Green's show is "Driven by Design." The display will feature more than 20 original pieces. Art being displayed will include ad and package design, as well as fine art.
Green said his inspiration is found in the works of Saul Bass and Paul Rand -- two popular artists who have created iconic logos for companies such as ABC, UPS, AT&T and Girl Scouts of the USA.
"These two designers' works of art inspire me greatly in my logo design," Green said. "I love making logo and brand identity, and both Mr. Bass and Mr. Rand are known for their logo and brand identity designs."
Green's interest in art began in grade school art classes at the young age of 8. He became increasingly interested in graphic design in high school and chose to study graphic design during his time at OBU.
"I will use the skills I have learned at OBU to help others and grow as a designer," Green said.
Following graduation in May 2013, he plans to work as a designer for either a Christian organization or design firm while working as a freelancer on the side.
The OBU Art Building gallery is open to the public between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
