Haines Named Director of Facilities Management

Haines comes to Bison Hill from Gillette, Wyo., where he has served as director of the Mining Technology Program for Northern Wyoming Community College District sinceJune 2009. He also serves as an adjunct faculty member for Norwich University in Northfield, Vt., teaching online classes in the graduate school's Masters of Public Administration program.

"I'm thrilled that George Haines has agreed to join the OBU administration and add his unique talents and skills to our Facilities Management Department," said Randy Smith,executive vice president for business and administrative services at OBU.

Haines earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, with a focus on construction management. He is a graduate of the Armed Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Va. He also earned a master's degree in public administration from the College of Notre Dame (now Notre Dame de Namur University) in Belmont, Calif.

His career has included extensive experience in facilities management, public works operations and workforce development. As a municipal public works director, he led a staff of more than 130 people maintaining 1.7 million square feet of facilities, including 56 major buildings. His other responsibilities have included operations and maintenance of city streets, solid waste and parks. He served as a commander in the Navy Civil Engineer Corps where he oversaw the contracting, building and maintaining of facilities for the U.S. Navy and Air Force in Japan, Kuwait, Spain and various stateside locations.

He is an active member of the American Public Works Association, serving as a featured speaker in leadership and management for the association's National Congress and Exposition and a writer for the association's Reporter magazine. He also serves as president of the board of directors of Heritage Christian School in Gillette.

Haines and his wife, Karen, have three children: Wesley, Allison and Sarah.
