Renowned Lawyer and Author Matthew Martens to Speak on Faith and Justice at OBU

February 28, 2025

OBU will host renowned trial lawyer and seminary graduate Matthew Martens who will challenge students to reimagine justice from a Christian perspective on March 28 at 4 p.m. in Stavros Hall Room 214. With nearly 30 years of legal experience, Martens’ career reflects the integration of faith and law. From clerking for Chief Justice William Rehnquist to teaching Legal Ethics at Duke, his journey demonstrates how Christ-centered values can shape meaningful change in the legal system.

This event is hosted and made possible through the OBU Politics program whose faculty. share this mission of equipping students to lead with integrity and compassion. The program examines justice, punishment, race relations, and the role of Christianity in governance. Rooted in a nonpartisan but integrally Christian environment, it challenges students to critically explore coercion and controversial issues in American politics, fostering thoughtful leadership beyond political conformity.

Martens’ talk is a glimpse into the opportunities OBU provides—where students are inspired to lead and serve with faith at the center of their calling. The event is free and open to the public.
