Employee Benefits
OBU believes that our employees are our most valuable assets when fulfilling our mission. We strive to offer an extensive array of benefits and opportunities for employees to choose from. Full-time employees benefit from the generous OBU provision of premium contributions for nationwide family-friendly Health and Dental coverage along with free life insurance that includes accidental death and dismemberment equal to an employee’s base salary. OBU provides access to optional employee-paid ancillary benefits like vision, hospitalization, critical illness, accident, and additional employee-paid family life insurance coverage.
OBU is a Veteran friendly employer. To learn more about specific Veteran benefits, contact the Human Resources office at 405.585.5162 or hr@okbu.edu.
This information provides an overview of benefits available to OBU employees. For more information, view the OBU Benefits Guide below or contact Human Resources. Benefits are subject to change at the discretion of the OBU Board of Trustees.
Retirement
OBU provides employer-matching contributions at a designated percentage level for all qualified employees who wish to contribute to the 403(b) retirement plan with GuideStone. Employees will automatically be enrolled at a 1.5% contribution level to participate in GuideStone if they have not declined the benefit within 30 days of employment.
Paid Time Off
Vacation Leave
The University provides vacation time to eligible employees to allow them time off from their regular work schedule each fiscal year. All full-time and part-time employees are given vacation leave as follows:
Length of service | Vacation days (hours) per Fiscal Year |
---|---|
0–2 years | 10 (80) |
2–5 years | 12 (96) |
5–15 years | 15 (120) |
15+ years | 18 (144) |
Vacation leave is prorated on an FTE (full-time equivalency) basis for employees who work less than full-time. For example, an employee with 6 years of experience, regularly scheduled to work 30 hours each week (.75 FTE) receives 11.25 days of vacation each year. Employees are also given their birthday as a vacation day in addition to those granted based on years of service. Employees should use the day during their birthday month and must coordinate the day off with their supervisor.
Sick Leave
You will accrue, in direct proportion to your FTE, 1 day of sick leave per month up to a maximum of 70 days as a financial protection against the possibility of long periods of illness. Sick leave is to be used for absence due to personal illness, injury, medical emergency situations, and medical appointments for the employee and/or the employee's immediate family (dependent child, spouse, and parent only).
Holidays
The University observes the following paid holidays each year:
- New Year’s Day
- Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
- Spring Break—one day (employee choice, normally mid-March)
- Good Friday
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving Week
- Christmas (the day before Christmas Eve through the first working day of January)
Additional days may be granted at the discretion of the President. The holiday schedule is published at the beginning of the fiscal year.
Education Benefit
Oklahoma Baptist University provides certain education benefits for its employees to assist employees, their spouses, and dependent children in obtaining a college education and/or acquiring college courses that enhance job performance. To receive this benefit, the student must meet the admissions requirements for the undergraduate program and meet the requirements for continuing enrollment. Eligible individuals may choose to decline the education benefit and accept other OBU scholarships. Education benefit recipients can only receive the benefit and cannot receive other OBU scholarships. Graduate healthcare and online dual enrollment programs are not eligible for this benefit.
Full-time employees hired January 1, 2021, or later will qualify for the Education Benefit according to the following vesting schedule:
Undergraduate
There is a one year waiting period, effective the first semester following the anniversary date.
- Year 2—55% tuition benefit
- Year 3—75% tuition benefit
- Year 4—95% tuition benefit
Spouses and children of full-time employees are eligible according to the employee’s employment date and the vesting schedule listed above. All full-time employees desiring to use the education benefit are encouraged to complete a FAFSA. For children of full-time employees, the benefit is limited to children who are FAFSA dependents only.
Graduate
The tuition benefit will be provided up to 50% of tuition for full-time employees only. There is a limited budgeted amount designated for eligible applicants and will be used on a first come, first served basis for each academic year. Under no circumstances will gift aid sources which OBU funds or administers exceed the cost of 50% tuition if any portion of the Employee Tuition Benefit is used for that term. The tuition benefit is taxable to the extent it exceeds the IRS limit.
Workers Compensation
All employees are covered by state workers’ compensation laws in the state where they perform their work duties. These workers’ compensation laws may provide medical and income benefits if you are injured while working.
