Council for Exceptional Children

Purpose

The purpose of this chapter serves to advance the education of individuals with exceptionalities and to promote related educational, scientific, and charitable purposes. Specifically, the chapter intends to assist and provide support to Oklahoma CEC in all its efforts on behalf of persons with exceptionalities, and to participate in all appropriate governance activities of Oklahoma CEC.

CEC strives to gain knowledge in educating and advocating for students with exceptionalities. OBU CEC participates in local, state, and national events that promote exceptionalities. OBU CEC members also attend the state and national CEC conference in order to further grow as future general and special educators.

Activities

  • Down Syndrome Awareness Month- As an organization, OBU CEC advocates for Down Syndrome awareness by participating in a walk in OKC or an awareness day on campus.  
  • Night to Shine- Night to Shine is a prom for people of all ages with disabilities. OBU CEC members volunteer at the local prom held in Shawnee.
  • Piece Walk- April is Autism Awareness month. OBU CEC takes one Saturday participates in an OKC awareness 1 mile walk.
  • Conference Presentation - OBU CEC members have the opportunity to submit a proposal to present research at the state and national conference each year.
